Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti) >
One of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. The square is named after King Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia.
< National Museum
If you walk few toward the Wenceslas Square you will see the grandiose National Museum building dominating the area. The National Museum in Prague was built between 1885 and 1890 according to the plans of Professor Josef Schulze at the place where until 1875 stood Horsehead Gate. The building is in Neo-Renaissance style, the external decoration is by the sculptor Anthony Wagner and Bohuslav Schnircha and the interior decoration is by a generation of artists from the National Theater.
